Exhibition May 25 − November 4, 2018
The Tretyakov Gallery continues the cycle “The Artist and Time”, dedicated to the history of Russian drawing of the XVIII - beginning of the twentieth century.

Exhibition “It's time for change. Graphics of the 1860s from the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery »It is dedicated to one of the turning points in the history of Russian art. It represents the complex processes that took place in the course of a decade between the “riot of fourteen”, the creation of the St. Petersburg Artel of Artists and the first exhibition of the new association - the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions.

The graphics are always responsive to the challenges of time, it is in the drawings that new techniques and themes are being worked out, its topicality and everyday life are far ahead of similar trends in painting. The circle of favorite themes in the visual arts of the 1860s presented at the exhibition convincingly demonstrates both the novelty of the plots and the continuity along the way.

The exhibition includes works by I. N. Kramskoy, V. G. Perov, A. K. Savrasov, I. I. Shishkin, M. P. Klodt, A. I. Lebedev, P. P. Sokolov, P. M. Shmelkov and other artists from the extensive collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery.

In addition to the works of artists, the exhibition includes original photographic portraits of members of the Artel, as well as other documentary evidence of that era. Also at the exhibition are examples of the official art, which the participants in the “revolt of 14” zealously opposed - Italian landscapes, genre compositions, and full-scale studies.
