About the exhibition
The first ever opportunity to uncover the relationship between the impressionist Claude Monet and his teacher, the most important master of the plein-air of Eugene Buden, is the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid Retrospective Exhibition«Monet / Budin» not only sheds light on the years of the formation of the first and the influence of the second, but also offers an overview of the career of each of them and the origins of the impressionist movement.

The exhibition collected about a hundred works by both artists. Pictures provided by institutions such as the Orsay Museum, the National Gallery in London, the Metropolitan Museum, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro and the Marunum Art Park in Japan, as well as private collectors.

The exhibition is arranged in chronological order and thematically divided into eight sections. It emphasizes the general artistic interests of the two masters, such as the iconography of modern life, reflected in scenes of a beach holiday in Trouville; changing light effects, which can be seen in most paintings and pastel works; wild places on the coast of Brittany and Normandy.
