Modern Times: American Art 1910-1950

The Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts an exhibition "Modern Times: American Art 1910-1950"- A project dedicated to the period of rapid changes in America and its impact on visual art.
From jazz and jitterbug to assembly lines and horizons: the beginning of the twentieth century was a time of great social, artistic and technological changes. The artists reacted with the revolutionary language of shapes and colors. At the show, you can see how Georgia O'Keefe, Marsden Hartley, Jacob Lawrence and many others defied conventionalities and invented bold new styles to match time.
Modernism was more than movement or style - it was a feeling, a world view and, for some, a way of life. Artists struggled with traditional ideas about what it means to be American. These selected works from the exhibition show the stylistic diversity and wonderful chaos of innovation that made this period in American history so dynamic.
The exposition is divided into the following themes: Modern life; Rhythm, light and sound; Close-up of still life; Modern palette; Nature; City Geometry; Animated figure - and consists of more than 160 exhibits, most of which belong to the museum's own collection.
