Expressionism in Russian art

Exhibition September 20 − November 19, 2018
State Russian Museum presents the exhibition «Expressionism in Russian art». This project is the next in a series of monographic exhibitions of the State Russian Museum dedicated to the greatest trends in Russian art at the beginning of the twentieth century. The exposition is based on the material of extensive collections of paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures of the Russian Museum. For the first time, the printed graphics of Russian expressionism — easel engravings, lithographed books and posters — are widely represented.

Expressionism in the world art of the first third of the last century embraced not only all types of fine art, but also had a strong influence on literature, music, theater and cinema, on the attitude of people. Each country has its own national version of this international movement.

Painting and graphics of expressionism for the first time become the subject of a separate monographic exhibition not only in Russia, but throughout the world.

The exhibition features about 350 works of the 1900s - mid-1930s as well-known authors: N. S. Goncharova, M. F. Larionov, V. V. Kandinsky, M. Z. Chagall, P. N. Filonova, so and their less popular colleagues: B. D. Grigoriev, M. V. Le-Dante, O. V. Rozanova, I. S. Shkolnik, V. N. Chekrygin, V. I. Kozlinsky, I. L. Lizaka, V. M. Ermolaeva, Yu. P. Shchukin, Yu. I. Pimenov, V. I. Shukhaeva and others.
