Painter. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR. Graduated from Lviv State art Institute in 1956 (among his teachers - famous Ukrainian artists N. K. Bundrick, V. A. Lyubchik). The artist has held 25 solo exhibitions in Russia and abroad. Kovalenko works are in the Kiev art Museum, and in museums of Donetsk, Mariupol, Yalta, Rostov and Chernigov.
