European Ukraine. The days of Mazepa

L'exposition 9 août 2022 − 20 mars 2023
The National Museum of the History of Ukraine opened an exhibition "European Ukraine. Mazepa's Twenty-Four Hours".

The exhibits were provided by the National Museum of History of Ukraine, the National Reserve of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine. V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine.

Involvement of the Hetmanshchyna population in the political and cultural processes in Europe is demonstrated on the basis of public legal sources: at the center of the exhibition are replicas of the Constitution of Philip Orlyk from the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts and the National Archive of Sweden. According to the idea of the exhibition, the legal monuments best testify to the formation of the European identity among the Ukrainians,

The opening was timed to coincide with the Constitution Day of Ukraine: with this the organizers of the exhibition tried to emphasize the direction of the Ukrainian state traditions from the Hetmanate era to the present and put them into a pan-European context. The project is actualized in the conditions of confrontation with the Russian invasion, which for a long time has been taking place not only on the military, but also on the cultural level. The political message of the exhibition is also quite open: Ukraine's desire to join the European Union is historically conditioned.
