Description of the artwork «Stokled frieze. Tree. (fragment)»

Klimt's last monumental work was the sketches for the frieze of the dining room in the palace of the Brussels businessman Adolf Stocle. Mosaics of marble, ceramics, gilded tiles and enamel on the three walls of the room are decorated with pearls and semiprecious stones. The main element of the frieze is the Tree of Life. A girl with an oriental appearance beneath him symbolizes expectation, and a pair of lovers is a delight. Hidden on the mosaic and an ominous character, watching everyone else from a tree branch - death in the guise of a bird.

Currently, no one lives in the Stockle Palace, but, unfortunately, it is also closed for visits - the owners of the building have not yet decided what status to assign to it. But UNESCO assigned the palace with a frieze of authorship by Gustav Klimt the status of a World Heritage Site. In 2013, Austria issued a coin of denomination of 50 euros depicting fragments of this mosaic.
