Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family insurance agent. To Nicholas lozowy and his older brother could get an education, the family moved to Lugansk, and then, in 1913, to Novorossiysk. He studied at the Novorossiysk gymnasium.

At the end of 1919 drafted into the White Army, in the early 1920's deserted for a short time in hiding, until he was released from military service as the sole breadwinner (his brother went missing during the civil war). In 1920 he graduated from high school, met with V. E. Meyerhold, who was at that time in Novorossiysk. In June 1920 drafted into the Red Army. In Ekaterinodar was involved in drama-drama Studio of the Red Star, where he taught E. I. Dmitrieva (Cherubina de Gabriak) and S. Marshak. In August 1921 he was demobilized in connection with the arrival in Ekaterinodar pedagogical Institute, the literary Department. In September 1922 he moved to Petrograd, entered the higher pedagogical courses normal and a handicapped child with a psychoneurological Academy.

In 1924 met with the artist V. D, A. zamirailo, on his advice, began studying drawing at the private Studio of Professor A. I. Savinov and under his leadership. Made posters for the Society of proletarian tourism and excursions society "Friend of children".

In 1926 he enrolled at the vkhutein in Petrograd to the Department of graphics, was trained by D. I. Mitrokhin, E. S. Kruglikova, P. A. Shillingovsky, K. S. Petrov-Vodkin and A. E. Karev, A. zamirailo, P. A. Mansurov.

In 1927 he met K. S. Malevich, within a few months he worked at his experimental workshop at the Institute of art history. In the same year joined the collective of Masters of analytical art (MAI), led by PN. Filonov. This was the reason of expulsion from Vhuteina. In the fall of 1928 came from MAI, from the end of 1928 again worked in the Studio of Kazimir Malevich.

In 1930 willow was "affected rights" (deprived of suffrage), as a "member of the yard kulak farming" and sent into exile in the Kalmyk steppe, in the village Derbetovka. Worked "culturecom", has created a mobile theatre. In absentia entered Stavropol pedagogical Institute, philological faculty, after graduation worked as a teacher in the village Derbetovka.

In 1942, drafted into the army, served on the southern front. In 1943 demobilized, he settled in Sukhumi. Worked as a teacher of Russian language at the Institute. In 1948, married in 1949 and had a son, Alexander (later an artist), 1956 — daughter Tatiana.

After the exile, did not participate in the artistic life and exhibition activities, but continued to study painting and graphics. Since the early 1960s maintained a close friendship and creative relationship with V. Bubnov, also lived in Sukhumi after returning from exile.

In 1992, tragically killed in Sukhumi during a military action between Georgia and Abkhazia.

Willow left the memories of Filonov (published in the magazine "Experiment" in Los Angeles in 1995 and 2005) and Malevich (published in the book "Malevich about yourself. Contemporaries about Malevich" in Moscow in 2004).

In 2006, the Moscow Museum of modern art hosted the exhibition "traditions of the Petersburg avant-garde", dedicated to the works of three masters: V. Bubnov, N. G. lozovoj and A. N. Lozovoy. In 2007, the works he exhibited at the exhibition "Filonov: from the MAI to postvanguard" in the gallery "Art-Divage" in Moscow, in 2007 there was held his personal exhibition.

A huge influence on the work he had teachers Filonov and Malevich. Very much in this sense, the influence of Malevich's late figurative, period. Therefore, in the artistic heritage of the wizard are very few abstract paintings, the work was mostly substantive, expressive nature and close to the tradition of neo-primitivism.

Lozovoj works are in major Museum collections in Russia — the State Tretyakov gallery, State Russian Museum, Pushkin Museum im. Of A. S. Pushkin.
