Since childhood I was attracted to faces, I have always loved to draw people. The reference for this painting was Paul Rubens' The Old Man's Head.
The monk's detached gaze invites the viewer to reflect on his day, to remember his soul and the feelings of his heart. When the room darkens, the monk's face lights up with a glow from within and invites the viewer to forget the mundane and find peace of mind.
