Description of the artwork «Cabbage»

For the painting "Cabbage butterfly" Nikolai Fechin received the title of artist and the right to make a pensioner's trip to Europe, did not fail to take advantage. Obvious Parallels between this work and "Cheremis wedding". Interest in the rural life of Mao from his childhood. By that time, as he had to go to school, father went bankrupt, the family was in need. The father took up any job, often went to the village, where a strong hand in price. And always took their children with them. Since then, Nikolai Feshin and retained a love of the village: "so far, I love the countryside and afraid of the city because the beauty in my childhood was connected with the village, and all the ugly to the city." And the village of his childhood has been associated with a lot of love. "After God, she loved only me"–recalled Feshin about my grandmother, whose summers.

The painting "Mao Cabbage" shows the episode of village life. As a rule, the cabbage was salted and the whole village at the autumn Church feast of the exaltation of the cross. We see that the action takes place in the yard. Young girls and boys shred the cabbage, burly women cut the cobs, kids run around and crunching the juicy leaves. Mandatory rule – the owners of this day do not skimp on treats (look to the right you can see the bottles), so the process takes place in an atmosphere of fun and almost festivities. As in "Cheremis wedding", we have a fusion of beautiful and ugly, joyous and wretched, fresh and tender. Morality and exhortation for it not to Feshin. He has all of these elements – part of the diverse mosaic of the world.

Coloring the picture based on leading contrasted black–and-white and yellow–purple in their various manifestations. Composite center ("Cheremis wedding" center there) is bright mountain cabbage (and immediately the opposition – priceusa over her woman in the dark). A rhythm pattern created by the patches of colour, a sensation of noise, mnogogolovy. Is appropriate feeling, salting cabbage is clearly not the silence happened. Traditionally, Fechin's palette is quite restrained and at the same time, thanks to the expressiveness and density of use, very rich and saturated.

From the picture emanates a sense of cheerful bustle, the characters seem to be a single entity, possessing a pristine, huge, rude and naive force, with features they are quite individualized. Some characters are hypertrophied to the ugliness, they connected the beautiful and the ugly – all the same kaleidoscope of life. Located in a semi-circle shape create a feeling of solidity of the crowd. Feshin was able to connect the unconnected. In his work are happily combined the realism and the impressionism, expressionism and art Nouveau. And in some paintings, in particular, in the "Cabbage" – along the depth plane image, the depth of the characters and the illusion of a carpet pattern, naturnet and decorative.
