Description of the artwork «Liker»

Acrylic on canvas
Personal used things of blogger Helen Yes

Working on the Feel The Brand project, artist John Peshkov wondered what images appear in the minds of people when they think about a public person.
For the exhibition, John created a series of canvases with pasted elements of clothing provided by famous people: musicians, artists, politicians.

Elements of clothing glued to the canvas lose their individuality: under a layer of paint, texture, color, and form disappear. However, looking at the explication, we find out who owned these things displayed in the hall, and thus change our opinion about the work. Developing his project, the artist plays with the idea that the French structuralists first started talking about in the middle of the twentieth century: any human objects were becoming signs belonging to a certain culture and community, having their own structure and system of meanings.

John Peshkov, asking the same questions as the philosophers known to us, built a horizontal network of acquaintances with people from whom he took clothes for the project and nostalgically reflected on the topic of the subcultures of the 90s. First of all, the first Moscow raves, sublimating their thoughts and emotions to real life: a frozen psychedelic trip in the country on the verge of global changes.
