The Higher School of Russian Artists and the center of the country's artistic life - the “Academy of the Three Noble Arts” - was founded on the initiative of I. I. Shuvalov and M. V. Lomonosov by decree of the Senate in 1757.

Many famous Russian artists studied at the Academy and acquired professional skills in it, which allowed them to become the head of the artistic life of their time.
And today, the basis of the educational process of the St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin at the Russian Academy of Arts is the principle of continuity of the best traditions of domestic and world art.
