Sofia City Art Gallery

1 Gen.Gurko str, Sofia
At the time of the opening of the Gallery in 1928, it had three departments - a museum, library and archive, and the main goal was to "collect, preserve and study those objects of the material culture of Sofia that have or will have a bearing on the history of Sofia." The original building was destroyed during World War II. In 1973, the Gallery received a new building, which opened its doors to visitors in 1977. Today, the museum has four departments: painting, sculpture, graphics, contemporary art and photography, and the collection includes more than 8,000 works of Bulgarian artists from the late 19th century to the present day.
