Description of the artwork «The sun»
The Painting Of Bonnard
"Nude in the sun" also called "Nude with side lighting", although correct "Model, illuminated from behind" (Model in Backlight). It is important that lighting the artist focuses. This painting is one of the first in which Bonnard departs from the restrained palette of intimate works from the early 1900's and admits on your canvas the sun. The light literally fills the picture: he is on the curtains, on the walls, on the covers of the sofa. Sunlight caresses every inch of a naked female body strong. The model the artist was his wife Martha.
In contrast
from the earlier nuhere the leading role is given not to the sensual intensity and eroticism, and the sunlight, glare and touches, creating the image. However, erotic is presented: a bottle in the hands of a woman, dropped on the floor dress, black pointed Slippers on bare feet and the pose pleased with myself and my body, and without a doubt desirable character, leave no doubt that the date... That was it, or will be, whether for a moment interrupted – details unknown, but the direction is given. However, this new plot gave way to light, which sets the softness of the atmosphere, the liveliness and even the thrill of color.
"My paintings are solid stains that are connected to each other to eventually create the object"– said Bonnard on his approach.
Very interesting combination of dense, even monumental, almost tangible nudity and lightest impressionistic brush strokes used to image surrounding the spot. Bonnar put on a cloth the mirror in which we see a partial reflection of a woman. This gave him the opportunity to visually enlarge the space, and to scatter the light. Also, the game the sunlight maintains the water in the basin. Women's swimming is one of the favorite themes of Pierre Bonnard. In place of the bathers Impressionists depicted in the lap of nature, came the Nude in the bathroom. Bonnard from a lot of them:
bathing women,
already bathed,
going to startto hygienic procedures or
completing them. It seems that Bonnard could after Degas to repeat that
"the woman – a cat washing itself".
