St. Eudocia

The icon is not drawn according to the canons. But I was struck by the story of Evdokia and wanted to enhance the effect of perception by depicting not an old woman, but a young beautiful girl.

Evdokia was a young woman of rare beauty and slimness, but she led a sinful life, selling her body. Rich suitors and admirers came to Eudokia from different countries, so she eventually became very wealthy and was honored by the local authorities. In other words, Eudokia was an elite prostitute, a hetera.

But a chance reading of the Holy Scriptures made a great impression on Evdokia. Having given away all her considerable wealth, renouncing her former life, she devoted herself to the service of God and did much good for her fellow believers, for which she was numbered among the saints.
