Mention Gabrielle Munter in books and articles about painting often occur in conjunction with the name of Wassily Kandinsky. However, it was not only the beloved of a great painter, but also a talented artist ekspressionistka. Kandinsky, during his career wrote very few portraits, immortalized beloved on multiple canvases (1, 2), but deserves special attention is a picture "Gabrielle Munter drawing" because it depicts the artist at work. He writes her back, the expression here does not play a role, more importantly, as her figure stands out against the background of the autumn landscape, occupying a Central position and at the same time becoming a link between nature and painting.

Gabriel Munter was born in 1877 in Berlin. Despite prevailing at that time, the orders, the parents strongly supported her desire to become an artist. Since childhood, Gabriel took private drawing lessons and attended classes in the Women's art school, because the path in the "male" of the institution she was ordered. Having lost both parents at the age of 21 years, Munter has become a rich heiress, enabling her to travel extensively and develop spectacular talent. In their search for the girl eventually made it to Munich, more precisely, to the school of the art group "Phalanx", founded by Wassily Kandinsky. Starting to visit his class in 1902, Gabriel soon realized that she admires him not only as a good teacher. In addition, Kandinsky at that time was the only one who took the young artist seriously.

Their mutual interest quickly developed into something bigger. All complicated by the fact that Kandinsky was married, and at first the affair with Gabrielle, he had to hide. However, pretty soon the artist broke up with his wife and began openly living with Munter, despite the fact that officially they their relationship was never registered. They traveled together, worked hard and bought the same house in Murnau in which Kandinsky began his first abstract experiments. But gradually, their love relationship is gone, ending with the beginning of the First World war. After their separation Munter for several years stopped writing, but then again took up the brush, developing and perfecting their own style. Until the end of his days, Gabrielle Munter lived in the house in Murnau.
