Description of the artwork «Prince with a horn of wine»

The paintings of Pirosmani was often compared to frescoes. And the image of his feasts (1, 2, 3, 4,5) is never a ball of sensuality: the bread and wine in the paintings of Pirosmani acquire a sacred value.

"Prince with a horn of wine" filled with serenity and dignity. He raised high the Cup with wine, he exudes a sense of solemnity and harmony. The grapes evokes thoughts of a Paradise of peace and tranquility.

As a rule, the paintings of Pirosmani give a distorted view of the size of the items. Due to the fact that the first plan he moves from object to object, there is everything at once, and consequently there is a feeling of grandeur and monumentality of the image, and at the same time – and confusion with the scale depicted. Here the Prince is back in the sky.

Pirosmani wrote on the black oilcloth actively used, white, sometimes in order to soften the contrast of the black, and sometimes – like on this picture to highlight it. Prince shining white face, dazzling grapes stand out against the dull foliage.

Favorite bright color Niko Pirosmani – blue. The backdrop for the Prince, holding a horn with wine is the bright blue sky. Traditionally, Pirosmani heaven is not above the figure, and plays the role of the directly background. This contributes to the monumentality of this painting in particular, and the paintings of Pirosmani in General. If all depicted against the sky, impossible rush and bustle, and the most ordinary objects take on an unearthly sense.
