Description of the artwork «Self portrait "a Great artist" (Le Grand Peintre)»

"A great artist" – without false modesty, called his Lentulov-portrait. Definitely feeling the irony in the title and in the picture, however, does not allow to forget that in each joke only a joke share. "Benovalence" excessive modesty does not suffer as a whole, and Lentulov in particular, this virtue was not inherent, at least, in the years of portraiture.

What "good man" before us in this picture! Recall that the Russian futurists in General cultured bodily health in contrast to the vague and lofty matters "world of art". Yes, and the image of the artist – how it differs from traditional refined ideas about "speaking with music". Where high brow and clouded eyes? Where emaciated body and uplifting the spirit? Oh, no, we can soundly be Kupchina. Contemporaries were told that Lentulov was a huge, powerful, friendly, without any hint of external elegance.

The artist stands arms akimbo, clearly emblazoned. A huge hand rested on the side, carefully traced. He was called "painter of the sun" – well, this portrait leaves no doubt. Gilded Kaftan for a rounded belly, a yellow background behind, and most importantly – circle over the head, or the sun, or a halo. Lentulov said that he paints as Mayakovsky poems. "We like the sun"– has called Mayakovsky. "Why not be it, will!", – the language of color meets Lentulov. By the way, embroidered Kaftan, reminiscent of the famed yellow shirt, Mayakovsky became one of the symbols of the futurists.

This portrait is clearly visible special solar manner Lentulov. His colors glow, and in this case, not gradually, but very clearly, defiantly. Tsvetodinamika self-portrait echoes the famous architectural landscapes Lentulov. The passion of the artist cubism was reflected in "Le Grand Peintre", but in a unique, personal manner. It's like he does not share the object on the form, and shows its separate components, which combine to enhance the overall expressive impact on the viewer.
