Description of the artwork «Kiss»

A small pastel by Robert Delaunay "The kiss" not particularly well known. In Paris, the Pompidou Center's huge collection of paintings by Robert and Sonia Delaunay, including such small drawings, many drawings, sketches.

"Kiss," Delaunay wrote, being in the Prime of life. He tried himself in the post-impressionism and cubismalready proclaimed the establishment of simultanism – the-art image synchronous (simultaneous) contrast. In 20-e years he has written a number of realistic portraits and later again became interested in abstractions. Delaunay experimented with different styles, and they are all in his interpretation of joint interest to the color.

Robert Delaunay was the first to define light and color the main value and meaning of painting. As written, this pastel? Exactly – color and light. Outline of "the Kiss" created by the light. The band of light becomes a dividing and at the same time, the connecting line between merged in a kiss. Themselves kissing are pure color – not just color, but a variation on the theme of the beloved contrast Delaunay: blue and red. He called it "punch"considering that the impression given by the proximity of these two colors, on the strength of its impact is incommensurable with any other methods. Combining red and blue, Delaunay sought the sensations of vibration, heat, sound that produced the resonance of these colors.

Of course, in "the Kiss" we are not talking about "the punch". Soft, delicate variations on a theme of red and blue – pink and blue – seem to successfully follow a given direction the original colors. Their interaction is much softer than the matching of red and blue, but the softness is surprisingly deep. It captures leads and blows up a red center on red merged in a kiss lips. This open, like a flower, hot shaded center sharp, dark eyelashes in the "blue" person (they are also written in blue, but dark). In total, there are three participants: pink, blue and light.

Pastel "Kiss" can be considered a positive response to the question that Robert Delaunay decided in the course of his entire life painting. Yes, the color can really be the main character, method and technique. And Yes, the color can truly do anything.
