Description of the artwork «In forest / In the forest»

The films of Angela Trofimova and Dmitry Trofimov are an example of author's experimental surrealistic cinema. Their world is the world of dreams, the hunt for memories, spaces filled with symbols, allegories, images. The presented works are created out of time, out of sound, out of plot, and as if out of reality. The absence of an explicit plot, non-linear narration, rejection of dialogues, sound and visual techniques, and editing experiments emphasize the surreal atmosphere of the films.
"There is one trick in the description of reality: the displayed reality imposes its form, its style of narration. There is no room for fantasies, and this task is difficult to solve. The world of sensations requires transcription and translation. Sometimes you feel one thing, but describe another. Frankness is ruthless, and truthfulness is often ugly. You have to model from fragments of reality and dreams. A world of words, a world where the main thing is not to explain and justify, is the main thing to create "(Dmitry Trofimov).
In forest (In the forest). This work by its visuals and content refers us to Ingmar Bergman's cult painting "Person". The power of the unconscious over the human person seemed incontestable. Many artists saw here for themselves new opportunities to explore the inner world of man. Bergman was a big KG fan. Jung, Jung defined the concept of "person" as a mask, which is designed to depict the role in the collective psychic substance. It is also interesting that during the filming period, Angela Trofimova took the pseudonym “Persona” for herself, as it is indicated in the credits. Like Bergman in “Person” in the film “In forest”, two women can be incarnations of one, or rather, her consciousness and subconsciousness. And the actions on the screen — inaudible conversations, walks through the forest, driven and leading — are the visualization of the idea of finding a balance between conflicting inner and outer selves.
