Description of the artwork «Bodiam Castle»

Bodiam Castle is located near the village of Robertsbridge in the county of East Sussex, England.
The location of the castle was chosen ostensibly to protect the south coast of England from French raids. But the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments concluded that Bodiam Castle is highly unusual in its location, as it is a long distance from the coastline. The castle sits in the middle of a moat. The side gates are connected to the south shore by means of a lift bridge. The main entrance is connected by a wooden bridge and a drawbridge.
The quadrangular castle is roughly square in shape. This type of castle, with a central courtyard and buildings next to the outer wall, was typical of 14th century castles. The castle has four round towers and three square central towers on the south, east and west of the wall. The main entrance to the castle is located in the middle of the two guard towers.
