Description of the artwork «Baker from the Lepic Street»

Zinaida Serebryakova unwillingly emigrated to France. In 1923, her works took part in an exhibition of Russian artists held in the USA. She got $ 500, but this sum could not patch the gaps in the family budget. Zinaida decided to leave for Paris to improve her financial situation.

...Unfortunately, there was no golden rain falling on Serebryakova in Paris. Firstly, the avant-garde was in fashion, while she did not share its values at all, adhering to the classical approach to painting, and the Baker from the Lepic Street is the evidence. Secondly, Serebryakova was very awkward in business and she did not know how to earn, being a once happy woman who lived with her family and her art.
