Painter, graphic artist. Born in Penza in the family of an employee. From 1925 he lived in Leningrad. From the autobiography: "In 1934, presented the independent work in painting for qualification Commission of Lingorama Out and was accepted for registration by the workshop painters. From that time on was engaged in painting, drawing and studying art history, at the same time did various artwork for various agencies and companies on employment contracts". In 1935 he began to visit the Studio of Pavel Filonov and probably did not break contact with him until the end of life. In 1940, he applied and was accepted to the externship faculty of arts WACH, however, in the second semester was expelled for non-payment of tuition fees.
