Specialization of the artist were of small size portraits and genre scenes in the background are carefully decorated interiors. Kersting continues to produce work of this very attractive type, associating the customer with its environment: they are the embodiment of the early romantic interest in the character of interaction between the person and the place where he works or lives. In 1818, he became chief artist at the factory for the production of porcelain in Meissen and remains in this position until the end of life.

German painter. He studied at the Academy of art in Copenhagen from 1805 to 1808, taking clarity and luster feature of the Danish school. In 1808 he went to Dresden, where he met Caspar David Friedrich and his circle. Friedrich Kersting made a trip to the Alps in July 1810. Kersting was also a close friend of the painter Gerhard von Kugelgen, in whose house he was a frequent visitor. His first two portraits in individual interiors (a genre he invented himself), Caspar David Friedrich in his Studio (the Museum of Hamburg) and Gerhard von Kugelgen in his Studio (the Museum of Karlsruhe), attracted a lot of attention to the exhibition at the Dresden Academy of Arts in 1811. The artist continued to produce works of this very attractive type, associating the customer with its environment: they are the embodiment of the early romantic interest in the character of interaction between the person and the place where he works or lives.

In 1812 Kersting painted the two paintings as models used young artist Louise Sindler. She has contributed to enable Kersting to send his works to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Weimar in 1813.

Thanks to Goethe, the work of Kersting well sold out.
