Born in the village of Deserts yuzhskogo district of the Ivanovo region. Honored artist of the RSFSR (1967), people's artist of the RSFSR (1974), laureate of Lenin Komsomol prize (1970). Member of the Union of artists of the RSFSR in 1960. In 1949-1954 he studied at the Palekh art school. Teacher - I. P. Vakurov, A. V. Kotuhin, N. M.Zinoviev, D. N. Butorin, N..Pravdin, F. A. Yurtsev. Since 1954 worked at the Palekh art-production workshops. In the years 1970-1978 was Chairman of the Palekh branch of the Union of artists of the RSFSR. Died in December 2001, buried in the village of Deserts.

Was engaged in monumental painting (the design of the concert hall in the hotel "Russia" in the Moscow Palace of pioneers in Orel, Ivanovo Gaidar room of the Palace of Pioneers (1964)), theatrical-decorative painting (sketches of scenery and costumes for the Opera N..Rimsky-Korsakov "the Tale of Tsar Saltan" for the Kuibyshev Opera and ballet theatre under the direction of N.M.Parilova), a portrait miniature, icon-painting. Themes of works: folklore, literature, revolutionary, genre scenes. Participant of exhibitions since 1954.

The work of B. M. Ermolaeva are stored in museums: gmpi, timing, Umgeni, PIM, Ivanovo OC, SHM, and DTM.
