Water lilies (or Nenuphar) is a series of approximately 250 works by Monet. The paintings depict the flower garden and water-Lily pond in Giverny in the spotlight artistic works of Monet during the last thirty years of his life. Many of the works were painted while Monet suffered from cataracts. In the 1920s the French state built pair oval rooms in the Museum of Orangerie in Paris, as the permanent home for eight murals of water lilies. Sixty paintings with water lilies were collected from all over the world for a special exhibition at the Museum of Orangerie in 1999.
In 2007, one of the paintings with water lilies by Monet sold for £ 18.5 million at Sotheby's in London. In 2008 another water Lily painting sold for almost 41 million £ at Christie's in London, almost double the pre-auction estimate of £ 18 - £ 24 million
