Assyria. Palace Art of Ancient Iraq

Exhibition October 2, 2021 − September 5, 2022
The Getty Museum at the Getty Villa is holding an exhibition "Assyria. Palace Art of Ancient Iraq".

Visitors will be able to see masterpieces from the Getty Collection and the British Museum, which provide a representative overview of the major styles and artistic achievements of Assyrian sculptors and craftsmen.

The Assyrian kings in the ninth and twelfth centuries BC decorated their palaces with magnificent relief sculptures that represent the culmination of Mesopotamian art, both for their artistic quality and sophistication and for their vivid depictions of war, ritual, mythology, hunting and other aspects of art. The importance of these ancient treasures has only increased following ISIS' recent destruction of many of the reliefs remaining in Iraq.

Prepared according to the materials of the website Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
