Avant-Garde Doc Art Gallery presents Dialogues, an exhibition by Boris Lazarevich Oshkukov (1948-2021).
Boris Lazarevich Oshkukov came to art at the ripe old age of 52. He had a medical practice and business activities under his belt. His acquaintance with fine art was special: mosaic technologies turned out to be the magic key that opened the door to great art for him. Having started to deal with mosaic panels in the Roman set technique, Boris Lazarevich quickly entered the world of creativity. Life took him 20 years to realize himself as an artist. In many ways Boris Lazarevich was helped by the ability and desire to constantly learn something new, to learn non-stop. Both people and books helped him in this. And also skills in planning and fulfillment of conceived goals. He did not just study the subject, but also analyzed it. This approach allowed for systematic and focused learning. Adding to this the experience of constant and hard work, he managed to achieve high results.
Among other things, he was very lucky with his teachers - as soon as he identified the topic of his creative endeavor, a mentor would appear after a while. The technology of the modular Roman set, Florentine mosaics, bronze sculpture, wood sculpture.
The whole learning process turned out to be like a two-way highway - the teacher, wise in knowledge and experience, saw in the student a bright individuality, in which one can find many qualities worthy of imitation. Later Pavlo Onufriyevich Shevchenko created together with the artist a series of abstract bronze works, which are presented at the exhibition.
While visiting the artist's creative dacha, I had the happy opportunity to create several relief panels and wooden sculptures in the style of Boris Lazarevich. In a way, it was a conversation with the artist that was fixed in time. It was an attempt to see the master's process from the inside, to touch the mystery of creating an abstract work. The most difficult thing was to enter the state of creative-meditative state, when thoughts are switched off and images appear in your hands as if by themselves. Some of these reliefs and sculptures are presented at the exhibition.
The exhibition "Dialogues" presents works created by Boris Lazarevich together with his daughter Sofia, who painted the casts of the sculptural project "Jubilee". In her work she tried to convey her personal attitude to each of the 10 works of the sculptural series. The music of national ornaments of many countries of the world sounds in her painting.
Dialogues with the author do not stop, now they happen through his works, whose images keep the energy of the artist and the memory of him.
