In 1941-43 was at the front. In the postwar years worked in the genre of thematic paintings. He turned to historical-revolutionary events, genre and thematic compositions. Special mastery of his portraits, for which characteristic reflection of psychological characteristics of the portrayed people ("the Embroiderer", 1957; "portrait of a veteran of the civil war in the far East, Kim Bo-No", 1965; "a portrait of the translator, G. Tarski", 1965; "Portrait of people's artist of the Yakut ASSR A. P. Samsonov", 1984). Leonid Kim did a lot of community work, his teaching activities have played a significant role in the education of a whole generation of Yakut artists.

People's artist of the Yakut ASSR, honored artist of Russia, painter. He graduated in 1937 Irkutsk art College. In Yakutia lived from 1939, participant of the great Patriotic war. He was Chairman of the organizational Bureau of the Union of Soviet artists of Yakutia (1939-1940), Chairman of the Yakut branch of the Union of artists of the RSFSR (1953-56.). He was awarded medals and Honorary diplomas of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Yakut ASSR, medals Foundation of the World. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR. From 1941 to 1974 worked as a teacher, then Director of the school. In 1972, for the first time in College opened the design office and the specialization "Carving" on the decorative Department. In his work dominates the portrait of the first known paintings — "Sergo Ordzhonikidze Yakuts", "Portrait of the mother-heroine V. M. Tarabukina". The participant of many Republican, regional, Russian art exhibitions. His name now bears the Yakutsk art school.
