Special mastery of his portraits, for which characteristic reflection of psychological characteristics of the portrayed people ("the Embroiderer", 1957; "portrait of a veteran of the civil war in the far East, Kim Bo-No", 1965; "a portrait of the translator, G. Tarski", 1965; "Portrait of people's artist of the Yakut ASSR A. P. Samsonov", 1984). Leonid Kim did a lot of community work, his teaching activities have played a significant role in the education of a whole generation of Yakut artists.
