Twin brother of Karl Kugelgen, portraitist, Gerard Kugelgen lived some time in Russia and also enjoyed the location of Emperor Alexander I, with whom he painted several portraits; painted several portraits of persons of the highest Petersburg society, also made some engravings with etching. Killed in Germany by robbers in 1820 (Rovinsky)
