Born in the village of Cuba on the shores of the Caspian sea. She graduated from Tbilisi classical gymnasium, in 1879 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of arts. In 1880 he received two silver medals, and in 1881, two silver and one honorable mention medals. After that, some time he studied in Institute of Technology. Not having finished training, went to America, where he worked for several years first as a Builder, then a farmer and an artist. He studied in new York, was influenced by the work of British marine painters, were often made of sea travel. At the end of the 1880s continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of arts, from which he graduated in 1889 with the title of class artist of landscape painting. Returned to Tiflis, where since 1890, takes part in exhibitions and from 1899 begins teaching. In 1904, one year went to Munich. After the 1917 revolution he moved to Poland, where he exhibited his works in Warsaw, Krakow.
