In 1921, then in 1923, a professional archaeologist and artist P. S. Tkachevsky excavated two barrows and carried out small excavations on the site. In 1925 was created the Orel local history society, bringing together renowned researchers of the history. It was headed by P. S. Tkachevsky - head of Museum of history and arts. Society consisted primarily of local historians and Museum workers. At the beginning of Stalin's dictatorship, the repression has affected the Museum staff and researchers of the region. In the "Case of the historians" in Orel was arrested P. V. Malashenko, I. Lebedev, V. V. Petkov in Moscow P. S. and M. Tkachevsky V. Viktorova-Obolenskaya.
