Description of the artwork «Princess Diana»
A series of paintings about Princess Diana, which included 7 canvases, was painted in the period from 1997 to 1998. The entire series of paintings was purchased in 1998 by the father of Dodi Al Fayed, Mohammed Al Fayed, who died with Diana. He sent a purchase request after a short article in the Times of London. The series contains a political and psychological analysis of the events that took place before our eyes. If Leonardo da Vinci compared science to painting, here we see the exploration of the mechanisms and hidden springs of recent history from painting to painting. The purple color of the velvet drapery is a constant reminder of royalty and blood, enhancing the drama of the plot and the suspense of the intrigue. The head of Dodi al-Fyed is iconographically represented as the head of John the Baptist . In the medium, in the world of contemporary actors, two Jesus Christ suddenly appear, discussing the problem of the woman's sinfulness with a biblical ambivalence that is peculiar to the Bible. One says that she is a sinner, the other is convinced that no one can lift the stone of guilt, since there is no sinless person. The tragedy reaches its climax in the fifth painting of the cycle. "Death." A giant spider encircles Diana's famous tiara with pearls already lost. The paintings are presented in Mohammed al-Fayed's private apartments.
