Description of the artwork «Parent responsibilities»

Picture "Maternal duties" from the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is actually called "a Mother looking for lice in the hair of the child." Pieter de Hooch specialized in images of ordinary people for daily activities in the home environment. Special attention he paid to the relationship of the mothers with children.

On the canvas we see a woman who touches a hair bowed in front of her child. The light falls on them from a high window on the right. Furnished room in Dutch restrained, floors, Delft tiles, separated by curtains visible embedded in the wall bed, and in the foreground – kakstoel, potty.

De Hooch – a recognized master end-to-end perspective and stunning light. The left half of the picture – the "triple view" through the door to the next room, and from there through the window into the garden. The scene, painted in muted brown and beige tones, is filled with peace and rest.
