Russian Soviet artist. People's artist of USSR, member of USSR Academy of arts, one of the most famous landscape painters of our country.
From 1932 to 1939 he studied at the Russian Academy of arts under I. I. Brodsky and V. N. Yakovlev. Presented his works at exhibitions since 1945.
Began as a portrait painter, but his work has become a landscape. For the monumental painting "the Zhiguli. A stormy day", in which the space was even larger than
the true width of the river, the Grits was awarded the state prize of the USSR in 1950. The Volga is devoted to a number of other works of the artist.
Gritsai was a master not only monumental and epic, but also intimate, lyrical landscape, paying attention to the small, inconspicuous part of nature. Work it is written freely and easily, but they were created sometimes for years.
Since 1948 Gritsay taught at the Moscow state art Institute. V. I. Surikov.
Works are kept in many museums of Russia and also in the Kaluga regional art Museum.
