Biography and information

People's artist of USSR, laureate of the State prize of the RSFSR behalf of the Vasilyev brothers, twice winner of the Lomonosov prize, film Director and screenwriter Levitsky Nikolay Alekseevich was born 27 December 1911 in the village Nikola-the Singing of the Gryazovets district. In 1930 he entered the film Institute, where he studied in the group of the Eisenstein. In 1936 Nikolay defended the diploma of the Director at the studios "Lenfilm" and "Belgoskino". In the days of the siege of Leningrad Levitsky was the commander of the working group of the Studio "Lenfilm". Since the beginning of 1942 until the end of the war he was in the army. In recent years, served as a Commissioner of the "Sovexportfilm" abroad, was Director of the Leningrad Studio of popular science films, in 1956 the Director of this Studio.

At "Lennauchfilm" Levitsky put about 40 movies. In 1968, his films "Alexander Ulyanov", "Near Russia", "Bloody Sunday," "the head of State of the Soviets" was awarded the State prize of the RSFSR behalf of the Vasilyev brothers. The works of Nikolai Levitsky has repeatedly been awarded at international and national film festivals. Two of his films - "Bloody Sunday" and "the Great accuser" - awarded the Lomonosov prize. Nikolay Alekseevich awarded the order of October Revolution, Patriotic war 1st and 2nd degrees, red Star, "Honour Sign" and many medals and Honorary diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR.

Along with the creative work of Levitsky actively engaged in social activities, was a member of the Board of state cinema of the RSFSR, member of the Board of the Union of cinematographers of the USSR, member of the Commission of the Presidium of the RSFSR Council of Ministers on State prizes.

For many years Nikolai Levitsky was engaged in painting, but also wrote stories about nature. In 1982, Levitsky N. A. died after a long illness.
