The Leopold Museum

The museum was created on the basis of a private art collection collected by Rudolph and Elizabeth Leopolds. To create a museum, the Austrian government purchased 5,000 works of art from them and Leopold was appointed director for life. The Leopold Museum opened in the evening of September 21, 2001.

The Leopold Museum houses the largest collection of works by Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt.
