On his return to St. Petersburg he wrote the historical stage ""Dmitry Donskoy on the Kulikovo field"" (located in the Museum of Emperor Alexander III ) and the painting is a portrait depicting count Osterman-Tolstoy during surgical operation performed on him on the battlefield of Kulm. These works, together with images, written in C. for the iconostasis of the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Church of the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg, gave him, in 1830, the title of academician. Since that time until 1842 he had a lot of orders, mainly on the part of the Church painting, at times interrupting her to paint portraits. In addition to the above the iconostasis, executed in the image to the Trinity Church, in Izmailovo regiment, Gatchina Cathedral, St. Catherine Church in Tsarskoye Selo, Peter and Paul in Peterhof, and others. In the iconostasis of the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg. S. has six images in the main vestibule of the Church Vvedensky Semenovsky regiment - image of the Savior, the three saints and the twelve apostles in the Church on the Aptekarsky island of the four evangelists. All these works show that their author possessed great resourcefulness and imagination was not particularly good at drawing; but its composition is characterized by a seriousness and thoughtfulness, and flavor, for all its conventionality and coldness, is not devoid of harmony and taste.
