Nikolayevich Yakovlev

Russia • 1880−1942

A member of the Union of Russian artists (1911). Studied at the Stroganov and Tenishevsky school. In the 1910s, worked on stagecraft, at the invitation of K. A. Korovin worked at the Bolshoi theatre (from 1911). In 1923-1937, he emigrated to France, then to Belgium.

Painter. Studied at the Stroganov Uch-school in Moscow (1898-1900) and St. Petersburg (1901, Ilya Repin and D. A. shcherbinovsky). A participant in exhibitions from 1910. Lived and worked in St. Petersburg from 1911 in Moscow, 1923-37 – in exile in France and Belgium. In works, you can see the influence of symbolism, then the attraction to the impressionistic style. Author of landscapes, still lifes, portraits – "Doll" (1907), "portrait of a woman in a green dress" (1916), "Altai landscape" (1918), "the Bank of the river near Moscow (1922), "the Trail" (1923), "Street in Bruges" (1925), "Secular society in the Rococo style in the alley" (1935) and other works.
