Htonic theatre, schedule, art aficionado and art critic. Born in St. Petersburg, count by origin. In 1870 he graduated from the Moscow University. Taught at private drama schools of Moscow and was the head of the situational part of the scenes of the Moscow Imperial theatres. He created sketches of costumes and accessories for performances. Author of drawings and watercolours on historical themes. Art critic noted the historical accuracy of the works of the master. Was known as an Illustrator, collaborated with the magazine "Artist". The founder (together with K. Stanislavsky) and a permanent member Of the island art and literature (1888). Was a collector, the owner of a large collection of Russian painting and iconography.
