People's artist of Arm. SSR (1958). A member of the Communist party from 1939. In 1918-19 he studied at the higher art school in Saratov, and later in Berlin and Paris. Since 1919, working as a theatre artist, 1928-39 — the main artist of the Theater after G. Sundukyan (Yerevan), 1939-49 theatre of Opera and ballet named after Spendiarov. The first work in the film "Khas-push" (1928, together with S. Alaplana). In the future, Arutchyan as costume designer participated in the creation of armamentarium: "Pepo" (1935, together with V. Sidamon-Eristavi and S. Zafarana) and "David Bek" (1944). Best of work A. marked by a desire to expressive cinematic recreating life from various periods.

[6(18).7. 1897, Shusha, — 9.6.1961, Moscow] people's artist of Armenian SSR (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1939. Studied in Saratov (1920-23) and in Paris at the Academie colarossi (1924-25). One of the founders of the Armenian theater and decorative art. Scored over 100 performances, including: "the Rebellion" (1928), "the ring" (1930), "the Marriage of Figaro" (1933), Otello (1940) — in the Theater. G. Sundukyan (Yerevan), where he was the chief artist in 1928-39; "At daybreak" (1938), "Queen of spades" (1956) and others — in the Theatre of Opera and ballet. A. A. Spendiarov (Yerevan), where he was the chief artist in 1939-49. He also worked in the field of book illustration and easel graphics (mainly portrait), poster and caricature. Awarded the order of red banner of Labor.
