In 1857 Julius Feders graduated from a private school and entered the St. Petersburg Academy of arts, where he studied with S. Vorobyeva. In 1860 and 1861 was awarded the silver medal, and in 1862, after his father's death he had deducted from the Academy.

In 1863, for works he received the title of a free artist, in 1874 – the title of the artist 1-th degree, in 1880 the degree of academician.

Yu Feders after 1862 lived in Jelgava and in 1863 – 75, he worked as a drawing teacher in a real school. In 1868 he opened his own photography shop.

The artist visited Switzerland (1865), France, Spain, Norway (1874). In 1875 – 76 years he studied at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf at E. Dicker.

In 1876 Y. Feders moved to Ukraine and until 1886 worked in the Belgorod Seminary national teachers.

Since 1886 he lived in St. Petersburg in 1886 – 98 years was an art teacher in the commercial school of Princess M. Tenishev.

In 1898, the artist returned to Belgorod and from 1905 lived in Nezhin.

In 1874, Yu Feders received a silver medal at the world exhibition in London. In 1878 he received the 2nd prize of the society for the Protection of art.

In exhibitions, the artist uchastvoval already during his student years in St. Petersburg, and then regularly sent work to exhibitions of the St. Petersburg Academy of arts. In 1908/09 year in Riga organized his solo exhibition which was exhibited in Koknese.

After his death, the artist's works are regularly exhibited in the Latvian retrospective exhibitions. Memorial exhibition organized in St. Petersburg (1911), Riga (1953, 1963, 1988), Nizhyn (1985).
