Michael Pelopidovich latry (19 (31) October 1875, Odessa — February 11, 1942, Paris) is a painter, ceramic artist, representative of the Cimmerian school of painting.
Mikhail latri was born in Odessa in the family of the eldest daughter of I. K. Aivazovsky Helena and physician of the Odessa city hospital of pelopid of Savich latry. A significant portion of childhood spent in Feodosia, where he came under the influence of his grandfather, who was his first teacher of painting.
In 1896, after the Richelieu gymnasium, on the advice of his grandfather he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of arts in the landscape class of Arkhip Kuindzhi. In 1897, after leaving the Academy A. Kuindzhi, interrupted his studies and went on a tour of Greece, Italy, Turkey, France. He studied in Munich from sh holloshi and Ferri-Schmidt.
In 1899 he returned to Saint Petersburg and was enrolled in the Academy of fine arts volunteer. In 1902 he graduated from the course with the title of the artist. Wrote impressionistic landscapes in oil, tempera and watercolour, many paintings dedicated to Crimea and Greece. Participated in exhibitions of the Academy of Arts (since 1912), "the New society of artists" (1912-1913), a founding member of which he was, and also part of the largest creative Association of young artists "World of art". Painting published in magazines "World of art" and "Spark".
In 1905 he moved to the estate of a Sheep-Eli near Feodosia, where equipped with a special ceramic workshop and the follow-up shows it exhibited ceramic works. So, he showed artistic ceramics in mobile "Salon Izdebsky", 1909-1910. In the same period, Mikhail latri actively participated in the activities of the Feodosia Society of arts, was a public Director of Feodosia art gallery.
In 1920, with the first wave of Russian emigration Mikhail latri left Crimea and settled in Greece. Led the Royal ceramic factory in Athens. Performed the scenery of Athens, Islands of Delos and Mykonos, participates in archaeological excavations of ancient Delos and Mykonos.
In 1924, the changing political situation in Greece forced Mikhail latri to move to Paris. Organized large decorative-art Studio, designed the sketches for which were made vases, dinner sets, panels, lacquered folding screens. Russian symbolism echoed from latri with decorative motifs emerging Art Deco.
In 1935 held a solo exhibition in Reims, which presented graphic works and watercolors of the Paris period. Died 11 Feb 1942 in Paris. Buried at the Russian cemetery St. Genevieve de Bois.
In 1962 and 1975 in Feodosia held a memorial exhibition of the work of Mikhail latri. The most representative collection of his works is stored in Feodosia art gallery them. Aivazovsky. His works are also found in such museums as the State Tretyakov gallery, State Russian Museum, the Louvre.
