The Kunsthistorisches Museum, Wien, holds an exhibition
"Iron Man. Fashion in Steel."the book is devoted to a little-known, but artistically and culturally key aspect of the European Renaissance: armor.
Visitors will be able to see samples of the most spectacular armor of the late fifteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The exhibition features rare pieces from the Imperial Armory in Vienna as well as selected examples of armor art from museums in Europe and the United States. Together with paintings, fabrics and sculptures, the 170 objects will shed new light on the magnificent, though often misunderstood, theme of Renaissance armor, in many cases transcending religious, ideological and gender boundaries.
The exhibition includes masterpieces from the Imperial Armory and selected works from international museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Dresden State Art Collection and the Wallace Collection, London.
