Alexander II the Liberator

Exhibition April 4 − October 15, 2018
State historical Museum to mark the anniversary of its founder opened a major exhibition "Alexander II the Liberator".
17 April 2018 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of the most ambitious of Russia's rulers in its history – of the Emperor Alexander II (1818-1881).

The main purpose of the exhibition is to document and present the main events of the reign of Alexander II, and impartially to tell about the Emperor as a man whose fate was more than tragic.

Emperor Alexander II entered the Russian history as a great reformer, who carried out many fundamental changes in all spheres of life, the main of which, of course, was the abolition of serfdom, and also famous for his achievements in foreign policy, wars, victorious and the large territorial acquisitions.

In the collection of the State historical Museum is a significant set of materials on the era of the reign of Alexander II: personal items and autographs of the Emperor; pictorial, graphic and photographic portraits of the monarch, members of the Imperial family, prominent state and public figures of the second half of the nineteenth century; memorial objects and offerings. Most of them visitors will see among the exhibits.

In the relevant sections of the exhibition shows the projects, photos, bookmarks, and construction of a building of the Historical Museum, models and photographs of monuments to Alexander II; scene painting, graphics, photographs on the theme of the coronation, of a court life; a documentary complexes about carrying out great reforms, etc.

The project also participated: The State Hermitage Museum, State Museum–reserve "Tsarskoe Selo", Egorievsk history and art Museum, State archive of the Russian Federation.
