Surenovich Grigoryan

He lives and works in Moscow. In 1969 he graduated from the theater department of the Moscow Art School in memory of 1905, and in 1976 - the Moscow Art Institute named after VI Surikov, the workshop of Professor N.A. Ponomarev. The institute was the beginning of creative activity: the first participation in the Youth Exhibition of Moscow artists in 1972. Distinguished by a rare working capacity and diligence, by the end of the university, Y. Grigoryan was able to present more than 70 canvases to the exhibition in the editorial board of the “Youth” magazine. For two years after that, Yu. Grigoryan was a fellow of the Union of Artists of the USSR. For the work "Armenian Woman" Yuri Grigoryan was awarded the Gold Medal at the exhibition "Modern Soviet Painting" in Japan in 1987.

The main features of the painter's creative underline are bright coloristic richness, complex texture, harmoniously built composition. With all the variety of genres (Grigorian paints landscapes, still lifes, nude models, and genre paintings), female portraits are especially successful for the artist. More than 50 works by Yuri Grigoryan are in collections of state museums and galleries in Russia and the countries of the former Union, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the State Gallery of Armenia, etc.

A considerable number of works by Yuri Grigoryan are in famous art galleries of different countries - Galllery Actuel G. Basmadjan (France), Nicolay & Son (Germany), Show Office Montreal (Canada), New Generation Cultural Society (Australia) Roy Miles Gallery (England), Schnittke Museum (Germany), the Bernd-Artin Wessels Museum (Germany), the M. Denver Museum (USA) and also in many corporate and private (for example, M.S.Gorbachev, Al Gore and others) collections in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Sochi and abroad - in Croatia, Germany, USA, France, Italy, Canada, Turkey, Montenegro, Great Britain, Australia, Japan, Ki ae, Thailand, South Korea. Two monographs are devoted to the work of Yuri Grigorian, although the full bibliographic list includes more than 40 titles. Among the authors are leading art historians and journalists of the country, writers.

And the artist’s family archive keeps written confessions in sympathy for his works by Aram Khachaturian, Yuri Dombrovsky, Andrey Dementiev. As before, recently, Y. Grigoryan has been actively involved in exhibition activities, successfully participating in international auctions.

In August 2006, he was awarded the title "Honored Artist of Russia" by presidential decree.
