He studied at the Latvian Academy of arts (1922 – 31) and finished workshop Species of painting of V. Purvitis with diploma work "Winter".
In exhibitions the artist has participated since 1933.
Personal exhibition was organized in cēsis (1934). Memorable exhibitions – in Riga (1972), Moscow (1974).
K. Melbarzdis was a member of the Union of artists since 1944, a few times he was elected to the Board CX.
The artist was honored art worker of the Latvian SSR (1963).
