He studied at the Studio Yu Madernieka (1909 – 11). In 1911 – 12 years he studied at the Kazan art school, in 1913 – 15 years – at the St. Petersburg school of the Imperial society protection arts, where he studied under A. Rylov and N. Roerich.

In 1915 he was drafted into the army in 1916, during the Christmas battles he was severely wounded and the artist was freed from military service.

In 1917 he worked as a drawing teacher, tried to continue the Studio in St. Petersburg, but traveled to the North Caucasus.

In 1920 A. Filka returned to Latvia and worked as a designer in National Opera (1921), Latgale theatre (1926 – 27) and a teacher in Rezekne, Daugavpils and Riga.

The artist has participated in exhibitions since 1913.

Personal exhibitions are organized in Riga (1922, 1928, 1935, 1938/39), Rezekne (1924, two, one together with F. Varslavans), Madliena (1935), Valmiera (1936).

In the 1920 – 31 years, A. Filka was a member of the Association of Independent artists and 1924 participated in its exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in exhibitions of culture Foundation.

His works are in the collections of the Latvian State Museum of fine arts.
