One of the largest Russian engravers of the first quarter of the XX century, the artist, who approved the engraving as an independent art, equal to painting, the Disciple of V. V. Matai, Falileev first began working in the technique of engraving on linoleum, creating a series of brilliant leaves, which showed a wide visual possibilities of this technique.

The heyday of the artist is in the middle of 1910-ies, when, after two academic trips to Europe, he settled in the village Century, near the Volga, where he worked and lived uninterruptedly for two years. In 1923, V. D. Falileev with his wife and daughter via Riga went to Stockholm two years later they moved to Berlin, where they lived until 1938, then settled in Rome. Here the painter remained until the end of life.

Works by W. D. Falileev are in the State Russian Museum, State Museum of fine arts. A. S. Pushkin, in many provincial museums of Russia and in private collections and in Public collections in Germany (Berlin) and USA (WA, NY).

The Department of prints and drawings Pushkin Museum Pushkin has an almost complete collection of engravings by V. D. Falileev more than 400 sheets of (etchings, woodcuts, linocuts, lithographs, silhouettes and drawings.
