Gorsky (Gursky)

Russia • 1868−1934

He studied at the Vilnius drawing school, then at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. In 1887 he entered the Academy of arts in St. Petersburg (Studio of Professor B. Villevalde). Appeared in the lists of students of the Academy until 1893. Left in 1891 abroad, she continued her education in Germany, France and Italy. In 1895 he settled in Warsaw. In 1900 he became a member of the Board of the Warsaw art society. During the First world war he lived in Moscow, where he actively participated in the cultural life of the Polish Diaspora. In Warsaw back in 1919. Taught, was one of the organizers, and later Vice-President of the Warsaw art society.

Since 1897 becomes permanent participant of art exhibitions. C. Gorsky was exhibited in Poznan, Warsaw, in 1900 at the international exhibition in Paris in 1914 in Vilnius. Many of his works were awarded medals. Gorsky himself was awarded the Legion of honor (France) and the cross of merit (Austria) for charity work by arranging exhibitions abroad. In 1922, 1930, 1933 he organized personal exhibitions. In 1937 there was a posthumous exhibition of works by Konstantin Gorsky.

Famous Illustrator. Worked in the magazine “Tygodnik iliustrowany”, “Wedrowiec”, “Biesiada Literacka” and “Tygodnik Polski” - illustrated, published in the editions of the works of the Lithuanian and Polish poets and writers A. Mickiewicz, J. Slovak, V. Eroshevskogo, G. Senkevich. Also illustrated, published by Gebethner and wolf, books for children and young people. Was a good cartoonist.

As a painter, worked mainly in the genre of portraiture. He painted portraits of politicians, scientists, aristocrats. When painting a portrait, applied psychological analysis. In representative portraits were often limited to external similarity with the model. In the paintings on historical themes and landscapes - highland realist.
